Confession time: I've never been one for New Year's Resolutions—never made them, certainly never stuck to them. That was until last year when the challenge of 52 Wild Swims presented itself. 73 swims later, I find myself reflecting on the unexpected power of those cold-water dunks.
Oh F**, that’s cold!* The exclamation echoed across Sanna Bay as freezing water grabbed my breath on New Year's Day. Quite the way to kick off the year, I must say. Since that shockingly chilly start, I've learned to control the panic, even if my language hasn't exactly improved (sorry, Mum). Little did I know that the ritual of cold water would become my escape, a coping mechanism, a release. Because it works! Grumpy Douglas has never walked away from a loch.
