Don’t you just love this time of year? A season of twinkling lights, cozy nights, and the frenzy of holiday shopping. Despite the chaotic checkout lines at Tesco and the relentless pursuit of the perfect present, there's a unique magic in the air that brings joy, laughter, and togetherness. It’s also the time of year when well all feel compelled to reflect on the year past. If there was ever a year to follow this trend, it must be this one.
I started this year lost. No, I hadn’t drunk too much at Hogmanay... but I was struggling to define what I wanted to do with my career, my life. I had such a need to sort my life out, give myself a purpose. Well it didn’t take me long. On the 10th February, whilst driving to the Scotland v Wales 6 Nations match at Murrayfield, I received my conditional offer to join the MDS Leadership and Graduate Scheme. A day to remember, not just because the dominant display from the boys in blue. I was so thankful for the opportunity, and so grateful to be given a chance. MDS were able to see some potential, and showed there willingness for trainees to thrive and learn. Sitting here typing, I still remember talking with my dad over lunch, filled to the brim with excitement, unable to focus on anything else. I will also remember, just how happy my dad was that day too, and the words of wisdom he could come up with in such a pivotable moment… ‘well this is where the real work begins son’… Thanks Dad
This year has been a whirlwind of change, a transformative journey marked by challenges and punctuated by moments of celebration. The MDS Scheme became the compass guiding me through uncharted waters, providing me with a sense of direction and purpose.
The challenges were real, demanding, and at times, daunting. Yet, with each obstacle, I found resilience within myself that I never knew existed. It's amazing how adversity can be a catalyst for personal and professional growth.
And then, there were the celebrations – small victories, milestones achieved, and the camaraderie that blossomed within my secondment and MDS teams. Whether it was overcoming a professional hurdle or simply reveling in the triumph of a well-executed project, each success added a chapter to the story of this remarkable year.
As I reflect on the past 12 months, I am filled with gratitude for the chances I've been given, the challenges I've faced, and the celebrations that have marked this transformative journey. It's a reminder that life is a beautiful tapestry of moments – some challenging, some joyous, and all contributing to the unique fabric of our individual stories.
As the year draws to a close, I find myself looking forward to the next chapter with a newfound sense of purpose, armed with the lessons learned, and ready for whatever chances, challenges, and celebrations lie ahead. Cheers to a year well-lived, and here's to the adventures that await in the coming year! So til next year -
